Jorge Federico Osorio, PIANO
Lauded throughout the world for his superb musicianship, powerful technique, vibrant imagination, and deep passion. He is the recipient of several international prizes and awards, including the prestigious Medalla Bellas Artes, the highest honor granted by Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts.
Osorio has performed with many of the world’s leading ensembles, including the symphony orchestras of Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Dallas, Detroit, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico; the Israel, Warsaw, and Royal Philharmonics; RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra (Dublin), Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai (Torino), São Paulo Symphony Orchestra (OSESP), Moscow State Orchestra, Orchestre Nationale de France, Philharmonia Orchestra, and the Concertgebouw Orchestra. He has collaborated with such distinguished conductors as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, James Conlon, Bernard Haitink, Manfred Honeck, Mariss Jansons, Lorin Maazel, Juanjo Mena, Jorge Mester, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Robert Spano, Klaus Tennstedt, and Jaap van Zweden, among many others. His concert tours have taken him to Asia, North, Central and South America, and Europe, where he has performed in Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Dublin, Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Stuttgart, and Torino.
Osorio has given recitals recently in Los Angeles (The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts); Mexico City and Xalapa, Mexico; Aix en Provence, France; Highland Park, Illinois (Ravinia Festival); San José, Costa Rica; and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Other recitals during the past few seasons have taken place in Berkeley, California (Cal Performances), Boston, and Chicago, where he has appeared on Symphony Center’s distinguished Piano Series on four separate occasions. He has also given two recitals in New York City at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, both of which were highly acclaimed by Allan Kozinn of The New York Times. North American festival appearances have included the Hollywood Bowl, Mainly Mozart, Bard, Newport, Grant Park, and Ravinia, where he performed all five Beethoven Concerti with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Conlon in two consecutive evenings.
A prolific recording artist, Osorio has documented a wide variety of repertoire, including a solo Brahms CD that Gramophone proclaimed “one of the most distinguished discs of Brahms’ piano music in recent years.” Orchestral recordings include Beethoven’s five Piano Concertos and Choral Fantasy; both Brahms Concertos; and concertos by Chávez, Mozart, Ponce, Rachmaninov, Ravel, Rodrigo, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, and Weinberg. Osorio’s acclaimed solo recordings on Cedille Records include Final Thoughts – The Last Piano Works of Schubert & Brahms; Russian Recital with compositions by Mussorgsky, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich; Salón Mexicano, comprising music of Mexican composers Manuel M. Ponce, Felipe Villanueva, Ricardo Castro, and José Rolon; an entire disc devoted to music of Ponce; a 2-CD set of Debussy and Liszt; and Piano Español, a collection of works by Albéniz, Falla, Granados, and Soler that received glowing reviews internationally and marked Osorio as one of the world’s great interpreters of Spanish piano music. In addition to Cedille, Osorio’s recorded work may be found on the Artek, ASV, CBS, EMI, IMP, and Naxos labels.
An avid chamber music performer, Osorio has served as artistic director of the Brahms Chamber Music Festival in Mexico; performed in a piano trio with violinist Mayumi Fujikawa and cellist Richard Markson; and collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma, Ani Kavafian, Elmar Oliveira, Henryk Szeryng, and the Pacifica and Moscow Quartets. He began studying the piano at the age of five with his mother, Luz María Puente, and later attended the conservatories of Mexico, Paris, and Moscow, where he worked with Bernard Flavigny, Monique Haas, and Jacob Milstein. He also studied with Nadia Reisenberg and Wilhelm Kempff. Highly revered in his native Mexico, Osorio resides in the Chicagoland area, where he serves on the faculty at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts.

Karen Gomyo, violín
Praised by the Chicago Tribune as “a first-rate artist of real musical command, vitality, brilliance and intensity”, violinist Karen Gomyo continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
In May, 2018, Karen Gomyo performed the world premiere of Samuel Adams’ new Chamber Concerto, with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen, to great critical acclaim. The work was written for her and commissioned by the CSO to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its MusicNow series.
Other 2018-2019 season highlights include debuts with the Philharmonia Orchestra in London conducted by Jakub Hrůša, the Royal Northern Sinfonia in England with Karina Canellakis, as well as returns to the San Francisco Symphony, Houston Symphony, Oregon Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Dallas Symphony, and to the WDR Sinfonieorchester Köln in Germany.
Last season she performed in recital at the Sydney Opera House, toured with Edo de Waart and the New Zealand Symphony, followed by performances with WASO Perth and the Tasmanian Symphony and stood in last minute to make her debut with Polish National Radio Symphony, performing the Britten, with an immediate re-invitation. She also returned to the St. Louis Symphony, the NACO, and the symphony orchestras of Milwaukee, Montreal, Cincinnati, Detroit and Indianapolis, among others. She also performed in her annual chamber music project at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark.
Strongly committed to contemporary works, Karen Gomyo performed the North American premiere of Matthias Pintscher’s Concerto No. 2 “Mar’eh” with the composer conducting the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington D.C., as well as Peteris Vasks’ “Vox Amoris” with the Lapland Chamber Orchestra conducted by John Storgårds, and has collaborated in chamber music compositions with Jörg Widmann, Olli Mustonen, and Sofia Gubaidulina.
Karen Gomyo has worked with the New York Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Danish National Symphony, Bamberg Symphony, Stuttgart Radio Symphony, Sydney Symphony, Tokyo Symphony, among many others, with such conductors as Sir Andrew Davis, Jaap van Zweden, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Leonard Slatkin, Neeme Järvi, David Robertson, David Zinman, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Louis Langrée, Thomas Dausgaard, James Gaffigan, Pinchas Zukerman, Mirga Gražinyte-Tyla, Hannu Lintu, Vasily Petrenko, Jakub Hrůša, Cristian Macaleru, Thomas Søndergård, and Mark Wigglesworth.
Gomyo participated as violinist, host, and narrator in a documentary film produced by NHK Japan about Antonio Stradivarius called “The Mysteries of the Supreme Violin”, which was broadcast worldwide on NHK WORLD.
Karen Gomyo is deeply interested in the Nuevo Tango music of Astor Piazzolla, and performs with Piazzolla’s longtime pianist and tango legend Pablo Zieglerand his partners Hector del Curto (bandoneon), Claudio Ragazzi (electric guitar) and Pedro Giraudo (double bass). She also performs regularly with the Finnish guitarist Ismo Eskelinen, with whom she has appeared at the Dresden and Mainz Festivals in Germany, and in recitals in Helsinki and New York.
Karen Gomyo plays on the “Aurora, exFoulis” Stradivarius violin of 1703 that was bought for her exclusive use by a private sponsor.
JoAnn Falletta, directora
Hailed as a “leading force for the music of our time”, for her work as a conductor, communicator, recording artist audience builder, champion of American composers and distinguished musical citizen, JoAnn Falletta serves as Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Brevard Music Center and Music Advisor to the Hawaii Symphony. She has been acclaimed by The Washington Post as having “Toscanini’s tight control over ensemble, Walter’s affectionate balancing of inner voices, Stokowski’s gutsy showmanship, and a controlled frenzy worthy of Bernstein.”
Ms. Falletta has guest conducted over a hundred orchestras in North America, and many of the most prominent orchestras in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. In 2018-19 she will guest conduct orchestras in the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Canada and across the US. Recent guest conducting highlights include performances with the National Symphony at Wolf Trap, the RTE Concert Orchestra (Dublin), the New Japan Philharmonic, the Mexico Symphony Philharmonic, the National Orchestras of Peru, Columbia and Iceland, as well as debuts in Belgrade, Gothenburg, Lima, Bogotá, Helsingborg, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, a European tour with the Stuttgart Orchestra, return engagements with the Warsaw, Detroit, Phoenix, and Krakow Symphony Orchestras and a 13 city US tour with the Irish Chamber Orchestra with James Galway.
Upon her appointment as Music Director of the Buffalo Philharmonic, Falletta became the first woman to lead a major American ensemble. She has since been credited with bringing the Philharmonic to a new level of national and international prominence. The orchestra has become one of the leading recording orchestras for Naxos and returned twice to Carnegie Hall, first in 2004 after a 20-year absence, and again in 2013 as part of the Spring for Music Festival. In 2018, the BPO made their first international tour in three decades, to perform at Warsaw’s prestigious Beethoven Easter Festival where Falletta made history as the first American women conductor to lead an orchestra at the Festival. She and the BPO have been honored with numerous ASCAP awards, including the top award for Adventurous Programming, Other accomplishments include the establishment of the orchestra’s Beau Fleuve label, the founding of the JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition in partnership with WNED, and the national and international broadcast of concerts on NPR’s Performance Today, SymphonyCast and the European Broadcasting Union.
With a discography of 115 titles, JoAnn is a leading recording artist for Naxos. Her discs have won two GRAMMY® Awards and received ten nominations. In 2018, Naxos released four recordings with JoAnn, Wagner, Music from the Ring with the BPO, music of Franz Schreker with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Kodaly, Concerto for Orchestra with the BPO, and her fifth world premiere recording of music of Kenneth Fuchs with the London Symphony. Upcoming albums include Respighi’s Rome Trilogy with the BPO to be released by Naxos in February 2019.
Falletta is a member of the esteemed American Academy of Arts and Sciences, has served as a Member of the National Council on the Arts, and is the recipient of many of the most prestigious conducting awards. She has introduced over 500 works by American composers, including well over 100 world premieres.
Ms. Falletta has held the positions of principal conductor of the Ulster Orchestra, principal guest conductor of the Phoenix Symphony, music director of the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra, associate conductor of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and Music Director of the Denver Chamber Orchestra and The Women’s Philharmonic. She received her undergraduate degree from the Mannes School of Music, and her master’s and doctorate degrees from The Juilliard School. When not on the podium, JoAnn enjoys writing, cycling and yoga, and is an avid reader.

George Pehlivanian, director
Born in Beirut, Maestro George Pehlivanian’s path in music began with piano and violin lessons at the age of three and six respectively. In 1975, he emigrated to Los Angeles with his family and went on to study conducting with Pierre Boulez, Lorin Maazel and Ferdinand Leitner. He spent two summers at the Academia Chigiana in Siena where he was awarded the Diploma di Merito. In 1991 he was awarded the Grand Prize at the Besançon Conducting Competition, the first American ever to receive this award.

Maestro Pehlivanian has been Chief Conductor of the Slovenian Philharmonic (2005-2008) and has held Principal Guest Conductor positions with the Residentie Orkest of The Hague (1996-1999), the Wiener Kammerorchester (1996-2000), the Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz (2002-2012) and the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari. Julian Schwarz, VIOLONCHELLO
Born to a multigenerational musical family in 1991. Heralded from a young age as a cellist destined to rank among the greatest of the 21st century, Julian’s powerful tone, effortless virtuosity, and extraordinarily large color palate are hallmarks of his style.
After making his concerto debut at the age of 11 with the Seattle Symphony and his father Gerard Schwarz on the podium, he made his US touring debut with the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2010. Since then he has led an active career as soloist. The 18-19 sees debuts with the symphony orchestras of Lake Forest, Winston-Salem, Charlotte (FL), Springfield (OH), Galveston (TX), Hendersonville, and South Florida, the Atlantic Classical Orchestra, and the String Orchestra of the Rockies; returns to the Des Moines Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Lake Union Civic Orchestra, and the Boca del Rio Philharmonic in Mexico. Internationally, he has made his Australian debut with the Queensland Symphony, his Mexican debuts with the Boca del Rio Philharmonic in Veracruz and the Mexico City Philharmonic with frequent collaborator Jorge Mester, and his Hong Kong debut at the Intimacy of Creativity Festival. He has also appeared at the Salzburg Mozarteum, and the Verbier festival in Switzerland.
As a recitalist, he has performed at the Casals Festival in Puerto Rico, the Rosenegg Castle in Steyr Austria, on the Embassy Series in Washington DC, at the National Arts Club, University Club, Musical Club of Hartford, Boulder Bach Festival, and for International Concerts of the Desert in Palm Springs. In March 2017, Mr. Schwarz embarked on an extensive 10-recital tour of China with duo partner Marika Bournaki. A committed chamber musician, he is a member of the New York based Frisson Ensemble (a mixed nonet of winds and strings), the New York Classical Players, and the Mile-End Trio with violinist Jeff Multer and Ms. Bournaki. He performs frequently at Bargemusic in Brooklyn with violinist Mark Peskanov, on the Frankly Music Series in Milwaukee with violinist Frank Almond, as a member of the Palladium Chamber Players in St Petersburg FL, and has been the featured young artist at both the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival and the Seattle Chamber Music Festival.
Julian Schwarz is an ardent supporter of new music, and has premiered concertos by Richard Danielpour and Samuel Jones (recorded with the All Star Orchestra for public television in 2012, subsequently released as a DVD on Naxos). In the 17-18 season, he gave the world premiere of Lowell Liebermann’s first Cello Concerto with a consortium of five orchestras. Other premieres include the US Premiere of Dobrinka Tabakova’s Cello Concerto with the Urban Playground Chamber Orchestra, and recital works by Paul Frucht, Gavin Fraser, Alex Weiser, and Ofer Ben-Amots. On record, the Schwarz-Bournaki duo has recorded Bright Sheng’s “Northern Lights” for Naxos, the complete cello/piano works by Ernest Bloch for the Milken Archive of American Jewish Music, and will release a debut recital album in 2019.
A devoted teacher, Mr. Schwarz serves as Asst. Professor of Cello at Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University (Winchester, VA). Other faculty appointments include artist-in-residence at the Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance (Nova Scotia, Canada), faculty teaching assistant to Joel Krosnick at The Juilliard School, and faculty at the Eastern Music Festival (Greensboro, NC). At the Eastern Music Festival, he runs programming for the Tuesday evening chamber music series.
Born in Seattle, WA, Mr. Schwarz studied at the Academy of Music Northwest and the Lakeside School. He continued to the Colburn School in Los Angeles under Ronald Leonard, and then moved to New York City to study with mentor Joel Krosnick at The Juilliard School (BM 14’MM 16’). Other influential teachers include the late David Tonkonogui, the late Toby Saks, Lynn Harrell, Neal Cary, and chamber music mentors Andre Roy, Arnold Steinhardt, Jonathan Feldman, Toby Appel and Paul Coletti. In 2013 Mr. Schwarz won 1st prize in the professional cello division of the Schoenfeld International String Competition in Hong Kong, and in 2016 won 1st prize at the Boulder International Chamber Music Competition’s “The Art of Duo” with Canadian pianist Marika Bournaki. He plays on a Neapolitan cello made by Gennaro Gagliano in 1743, is an active contributor to Strings Magazine’s Artist Blog, and sits on the music committee of the National Arts Club. A Pirastro artist, he endorses and plays the "Perpetual" medium set of cello strings.
Lisa Pegher, percusión
Lisa Pegher is an American drummer and solo percussionist. In her International career she has performed throughout the world as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician. She is known for pioneering percussion as a solo instrument within the orchestral realm and beyond, making it her life’s work to present percussion to larger audiences by commissioning, collaborating, and creating new works and performances that bring percussion to the front of the stage. Lisa has been hailed by the New York Times as "Tremendous" by the Boston Globe as “Forcefully balletic” and by New York City’s The Glass as “More than just a drummer—an alchemist of time, sound, and space, crafting visceral landscapes that penetrate the ears and mind.”
Featured in Symphony Magazine as one of the Top Six performers of her generation, Lisa has performed as soloist with numerous orchestras, wind ensembles and chamber groups across the globe including the Orchestré Symphonique de Trios Rivieres in Canada, the Thailand Philharmonic, Boston Modern Orchestra Project, Peninsula Festival Orchestra, Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, Mission Chamber Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, South Carolina Philharmonic, NEPA Philharmonic, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Asheville Symphony Orchestra, Lake George Music Festival Orchestra, Louisiana (New Orleans) Philharmonic, and many more. Lisa performs concerti and new works by many of today’s leading composers such as Jennifer Higdon, Joseph Schwantner, Tobias Bröström, James MacMillan, Kevin Puts and Derek Bermel, to name a few.
She has, to date, given the world premiere performances of several percussion concertos that have been composed especially for her by composers such as Richard Danielpour, David Stock, Mathew Rosenblum, Paul Dooley and Brett Dietz. She has been a featured soloist at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, at NYC's SubCulture as well as numerous concert halls around the world.
Most recently she premiered Richard Danielpour's new percussion concerto "The Wounded Healer" with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra which she was hailed as " an ideal interpreter of the work; receiving a vigorous ovation" by the New Jersey Star Ledger. In 2017 she also premiered a new work by up and coming composer, Paul Dooley that explores mixing orchestra and electronic dance music. The work is said to “reach new heights in percussion music” and called “a wild throw down pitting full-tilt rock-and-roll drums against muscle-flexing symphonic fury” by the press, and has begun bringing EDM audiences into symphonic music halls.
Lisa also spends time composing her own original works for amplified acoustic instruments, electronics, and live animation. Her most recent multimedia project: ImPerFecTion was created after she founded her own group, the SideFire Trio in Brooklyn in 2017. This show and album presents a mixture of free form jazz and rock, live visual animation, and dance. Previously she created the electronic/multimedia show called, Minimal Art: Imaginary Windows which was released in 2010. A drummer at heart, Lisa has been the drummer/percussionist for many indie-rock, avant-jazz, and cross-genre bands throughout her career and has recorded on labels including the BMOP label, Albany Records, AKM Productions and her own label, Lisa P. Music Productions.
Lisa currently resides New York City. She is also a certified Baptiste style yoga instructor and when not performing enjoys biking, running and learning computer programing languages.
